Maintaining your garage doors #necessary

Maintaining your garage doors is a thing and it’s a must. Not only does it prolong the life of the doors themselves, but it prevents common issues from arising.

Over time, dirt, grime, dust and debris accumulates in the garage door tracks, springs may loosen, weatherstripping may become worn down, etc — which can all cause the door to stick, become misaligned or malfunction, making it unsafe to operate.

So this is your friendly reminder to schedule a garage door maintenance visit with a professional. The pro will perform a thorough inspection and  a number of tasks to catch any potential issues early and ensure the safety of the door including:

Lubricating moving parts This prevents rollers from slipping off the track and keeps the door quiet.

Tightening hardware and adjusting springs Especially if it’s been some time since a maintenance, bolts and roller brackets or springs may have loosened, which can make it difficult for the door to open and close smoothly.

Replacing rollers If you didn’t know, now you do: rollers should be inspected for cracks and other signs of wear at least twice a year, and replaced if necessary.

Replacing weatherstripping Weatherstripping should be inspected for cracks (or nibbles from mice) ideally before summer and winter, and replaced as needed to keep drafts, debris and critters out of the garage.

Cleaning tracks Tracks can become clogged with dirt, sawdust, rust, spiderwebs or other debris, compromising the doors ability to open and close. The pro will do a thorough cleaning.

Testing safety features This can include testing the photocell sensor and the automatic reversal feature of the door opener. And most importantly, ensuring all the (literal) moving and unmoving parts are working their best to keep you and your family safe.
