What Is Home Warranty

The Winterizing Series, Part 2: Feeling a bit drafty?

You know that last bit of summer – that warm, calm and quiet spell of temperate weather – that passes through although autumn has begun? Well, pesky drafts and cold spots throughout the house happens sometime after that. When you’ve broken out the extra-cozy couch throws and woolen socks.

And to keep up the warm and fuzzy feeling of being at home in the winter, it couldn’t be more important to regulate the temperature in the house and to boot, you’ll be saving on energy costs and keeping moisture out – all major perks of properly (and cost-effectively) keeping your home insulated. So, this is how we do it:

Inspect the cracks

Prevent drafts by inspecting windows and doors for cracks and replace weather stripping if needed.

Close up shop

Make sure the locks on your windows are working and securely closing windows.

Top floor of the house

Take the trek up to your attic, monsters and all, and increase attic insulation if you’re concerned about heat loss through the roof.

Summer’s Over

Remove and store any window mounted AC units.

If the fireplace is strictly decorative

Seal an unused fireplace – you can place a piece of fiberglass insulation behind a fireplace screen to block cold air coming down the chimney. This will of course need to be removed if and when you use the fireplace.
